What to Wear for your Family Photo Session
SIMPLE THINGS FIRST
Some General Tips :
Choose clothing that your family is comfortable in and suits the location and season
If your choosing a location that has lots of colour - ie parks/ gardens etc - go for neutral colours (Black/whites/tans) that wont compete with the background.
If your location for photos is softer and more neutral you can use a bit more colour for pop.
Choose your Colour Palette - So rather than choosing one colour for everyone to wear, choose 2 - 3 that match in nicely.
Don't over think it though... if you are having trouble deciding - start with one item you love - either your dress/ hat, shoes etc and build out from there for everyone.
Accessorise ! Dont forget lovely boots, scarves, necklaces, earrings etc.
Try everything (including shoes) on at least a week before your session so you have time to purchase items that no longer fit your little ones (they grow so quickly). It is important it fits well, not too tight and not too big.
Tips for Kids
Bring along a spare set of clothes just in case. Bring some wet wipes !
When travelling to your session - you can either pop a loose shirt over the top of their clothing (just in case) or change once you arrive (leave extra time to arrive early to change if you need)
Clothes that are too tight or your child does not like - will only cause them to be uncomfortable during the session. Sometimes it helps to give them a few choices so they feel they have contributed to the clothes/ shoes they are wearing. Put out choices on the bed for them to wear (making sure your okay with anything they choose of course ! )
Avoid character t-shirts as they do tend to "date" the photos and you might wish you had chosen something a little more classic instead.
Accessorise with their favourite snuggle bunny, book etc if it helps to keep them comfortable.
Tips for Mums / Older daughters/ Grandmum's etc
Treat yourself ! Get your hair, nails, make up done ! You wont regret it ! If it's a windy day/season - please consider if you wear your hair up/down. Bring a brush to settle as well as a few makeup items to touch up (especially handy if it's a warm afternoon.
Choose clothing items that remain modest, just in case you are cuddling your children and your top is a little to open or low cut. Double sided fashion tape is your friend !
With strappy dresses and tops - choose your bra's wisely as removing bra straps from photos if they are showing is tricky and requires specialist editing (fee involved).
If you are going to apply a spray tan during summer for the photos - please do so at least a week prior as the colour tone may be too much for the rest of the family. Keep it natural as possible and allow time for it to settle.
